Introducing: The Carib Eats Community
This video is to celebrate almost a year of Carib Eats! A social enterprise that cooks and delivers delicious Caribbean food to those who need it in the Hackney Community.
London Community Story: East Eats
Carib Eats was awarded a London Community Story Grant to capture our communities experiences through Covid.
We interviewed a selection of our recipients during the final lockdown in 2021. We discussed how the pandemic had affected them as an individual as well as a community. Below are 4 compilations of their answers; Introductions & Roles in the community, Covid’s Impact, Changing food prices and Thoughts on Hackney council.
We also prepared a report from their answers, with a breakdown of changes they want to be made. Thank you to the Carib Eats community for taking the time to talk to us and for the London Community Story Grant: Groundwork for funding it.
Roles in the community
In this video, members of the Carib Eats Community introduce themselves and explain their connection to Hackney; Including a Commenwealth gold medalist, a HIV nurse and a Hackney Head Teacher. Listen to how their roles have changed over time and through Covid.
Covid-19’s Impact
Here the interviewees are beautifully open about the challenges they’ve faced due to the virus and share what has helped them get through it. Including a mother of three who was asked to shield and a man who just wants to go for a cup of tea.
Thoughts on Hackney Council
Here we gave the interviewee’s space to share their opinions and needs in relation to Hackney Council.
Changing Food Prices
As a social enterprise tackling food poverty and isolation, we were interested to see how Covid has affected where people shop and if they’ve noticed any price changes.
